The last few years have sparked a renewed interest in the artwork of Anthony Claps.
- The successful "Anthony Claps Retrospective" at the Oak Park Art League in 2006 brought in people from all over the country to see 54 beautiful Claps pieces displayed together in a show curated by OPAL's Board Chair Keith Taylor and Claps granddaughter Susan Yackley.
- A Catalog Raison d’Être of Claps work has been completed by grandson Jim Rasfeld which contains pictures of over 200 paintings and many sketches.
- Notecards of four Claps paintings have been produced and are being sold in the OPAL gallery, on this website, and in the Roycroft shop in East Aurora, NY, where Claps spent
some of his young adult years (1918 - 1920) learning leather tooling.
- A Claps portrait, "Girl with Lion" was brought to the attention of the Claps family by an antique dealer in River Forest and purchased by a family member.
- And the beautiful, "Street Through Town" was purchased for $1200 by a lovely couple who have hung the painting in their home near their other Claps painting.
Anthony Claps was a Midwestern landscape painter and member of the Oak Park Art League. From the 1920's through the early 60's he produced hundreds of paintings and won numerous awards for his work. See examples of his work here.
